Hiscox helps send children on a Dreamflight

Hiscox is helping seriously ill or disabled children to enjoy a holiday of a lifetime in Florida this October with Dreamflight – a charity that, each year, takes 192 boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14 away to the US on a specially chartered British Airways airliner.

The trip, on which the children travel without their families but with a team of medical experts and volunteers, is intended to give the children a sense of independence, self-confidence and get a new perspective on life. “Often for the first time, these children realise that they are not alone, and they are not the odd one out. They see children around them who have also suffered, they gain perspective, and experience things they never thought possible,” Dreamflight says on its website.

Many of the children have cited the experience as being a turning point for them, and several have gone on to compete for the British Paralympics team. Natasha Baker, who won a gold medal in the dressage at the Rio games, was a former Dreamflight child.

The charity relies on donations from individuals and companies to pay for each trip, which costs more than £750,000. “We are proud to help support such a worthy cause as Dreamflight, which sends many sick and disabled children – who might never have had such an opportunity before – on a trip they will never forget,” says David Slevin, Head of Aerospace and Specialty at Hiscox London Market.
